What kind of certifications or training is good for putting on an application for a police officer?
Question:
What kind of certifications or training is good for putting on an application for a police officer?
I am applying for a police officer position and the applications always ask for any certifications or training that would help me as a police officer, but I don’t have any. What would be some good ones to get to better my chances?
I also heard that a lot of agencies don’t really care if the applicant has a degree in Criminal Justice…how true is that?

Answer by Colt 45
2 to 4 year degree in a Criminal Science is preferred and sometimes mandatory. (60-120 college credits). So anyone to say that’s not important is an idiot.
Other things that may help:
Police Academy Training
Police Explorers
Auxiliary/Reserve Police experience (preferably with the department you are applying with)
EMT-Basic training
Community Service (volunteer, not court ordered of course)
Military Service (not dishonorably discharged)
etc.
