Should telemarketing calls be illegal after business hours?

I have to write a speech for Debate and I want to know your thorough opinions on if telemarketing calls should be illegal after business hours.

Question:

Last year I signed up to stop those annoying telemarketing calls, why am I still getting them?

If I cooperated with these telemarketers I would have refinanced my home 1,000 times by now, and I would have more TV dishes on my roof than shingles. I have told them to stop calling me but they just won’t give up. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you sign up under the Federal do not call list or a State do not call list?

The Federal list is better than nothing, but my State’s law (Indiana) is far more strict and limiting. I get almost no phone calls now! There are a few exemptions under the state law, but far fewer than under the Federal law. This was one of the best laws passed in the nation.

You should check to see if your state has a do not call list and place yourself on it as well.

PS. My state law says that if I document who called, from what company and I ask to be removed from the call list and they call me again, I can collect ,500 from them for harassment!

Why dont we ban ALL telemarketing?

Earlier this month, a ban on PRE-RECORDED telemarketing calls went into effect.
Does anyone else feel this is just not enough? I mean, what about all those annoying people calling asking for donations, survey questions, and ads!? That is still invasion of our privacy and should be illegal! Those calls are harrassment, especially since they happen numerous times throughout the day, and they are unwelcome disturbances.

Thoughts anyone?
Crazy Cat Lady: those people should get REAL jobs. Harassing random people is not a job. stop being ignorant. telemarketing is harassment and needs to stop!
