Q&A: Do I have to pay sales tax in Iowa when a photographer releases the copyrights to the photos?
Question:
Do I have to pay sales tax in Iowa when a photographer releases the copyrights to the photos?
My photographer is releasing the copyrights to our photos to us for 00. The photographer is located in Iowa, but I live in Maryland and they would be shipping the copyright release to us. They have now come back and said that it would cost 05 bc of sales tax. I was wondering if that was even subject to sales tax, and since I live in a different state if that was even legal.

He/she does have to because they have to pay sales tax on their services to the state.
Here’s the link for the state government.

Whether he/she actually files it and pays it to the state of Iowa is on them and their conscience.
If they don’t and got an extra 5 to get in trouble later, its their call…
