That depends on the state you live in, and also the city you live in. If you live in say…Philadelphia you need 0 hours of training to advertise as a massage therapists because there are not city or state laws. Ditto for many places in California. In San Francisco, a mere 100 hours and an easy test gets you licensed.

Check with your state or city department of health or www.amtamassage.org

Q&A: Does anyone have annoying telemarketing calls from people that sound like they are all from another country?

Question:

Does anyone have annoying telemarketing calls from people that sound like they are all from another country?

First they call to offer can loans, then they call offering bankruptcy help, and now they are calling to say the state has a judgement against me. I told them if that is so, mail it to me or have someone hand deliver it to me. They refuse. All their numbers come up as Unknown. And again they seem to be Asian but have names like Bob, Joe, Mark, David, etc. How do I end these?

Why most people don’t know the difference between market research and telemarketing or soliciting?

Question:

Why most people don’t know the difference between market research and telemarketing or soliciting?

I am doing telephone surveys and when I explain that I work for a market research firm, the majority of the respondents tell me that they are in the “Do not Call list” (which aplys ONLY to telemarketers and solicitors) or they say that they are not interested in buying anything, and they hang up, and they lose the chance of expressing their opinions about an specific subject and making their opinions count.

The term “marketing” has been thoroughly corrupted by years of abuse, where people use marketing to mean sales.

That is still going on right now, for example, just looking at job classifieds, Careerbuilder, and Craigslist jobs, most ( if not all ) of the “marketing specialist” or “marketing executive” jobs are really commissioned sales jobs.

I, too am weary of seeing this. There is a world of difference between marketing and sales that the majority of business people do not comprehend.

One thing you could do is to say that you are from a Survey Research firm, or Opinion Research company, and avoid the use of the word market.
