Telemarketing is not for the weak of heart.
If you can let it roll off of you like water off a ducks back, go for it!

It may not be too bad. I am sure that you will encounter some people that are pretty rude.
All telemarketing is the same, telephone panhandlers.
Telemarketing is a tough business. But I guess it is better than these jobs!

as long as you dont mind non stop rejection go for it
I don’t know about that kind of telemarketing, but I worked as a telemarketer one summer and I hated it. I got a lot of really angry people, as expected, who hate telemarketers. I stuck with it and kept my spirits up only because I needed the money.
But who knows if you’re calling people who probably support your college. They may be more kind. But be prepared for some angry people as well.
you’re HIGH!
It’s exactly like TELEMARKETING!
Anytime you bug people on the telephone and want their money (and usually around DINNER TIME)… it’s TELE-MARKETING.
The only difference is you get NOTHING BACK (at least materialistically) for your money.
if you like to sit and talk all day on the phone its the job for you… but it takes some getting used to…
I think it would be worse then when they call about a product, seriously, no ones going to actually take their time to donate.
The only good part is you are with a college contacting alumnus. Maybe they won’t be as bad to you. That’s about it. Just gain some work experience and put it on your resume.
If you were selling something or trying to get them to sign up or calling to pay a debt then that’s worse. Usually, everybody hates telemarketers calling them when they don’t want to be bothered anyway. But in your case, it should not be so bad since its helping your college.
Lisa I ran a national telemarketing company for years. It’s calling people to make a sale. If you actually working FOR the college you won’t have many problems. If this is a third party CONTRACTED by the college it is different. People will ask you what % goes to the college and what goes to who you work for. You’ll never make any money if you answer that question honestly. However with that said, its not physical work, and it does teach you how to use the phone, something that will help you as you move forward in your career.
To the other idiots who constantly talk about calls at supper time. Where is it written you have to answer a telephone ANYTIME. If being interrupted feeding your face is so unappealing to you then don’t get your ass up. The people making these calls are generally good people just trying to make a couple dollars instead of being on welfare or stealing.
I don’t appreciate your salespeople calling me at work either selling me some crap your company produces either. How long would your company be in existence if we banned that action?
